North Ayrshire Celebrates Completion Of New Council Homes

Construction News Image
North Ayrshire's newest council homes are now fully occupied, as the final tenants settle into 14 newly built properties across Laburnum Avenue in Beith and Newhouse Drive in Kilbirnie.

The developments, part of North Ayrshire Council's Estate Based Regeneration Programme, have received glowing feedback from new residents. Local councillors recently visited the sites to see first-hand the positive impact the homes are having on tenants' lives.

Garnock Valley ward members Anthea Dickson, Donald L. Reid and Margaret Johnson met with new tenant Jimmy Ferguson and his dog, Luca, at Newhouse Drive. He has moved into one of the new amenity bungalows and is "delighted" with his new home.

The properties replace previously demolished flatted blocks identified for regeneration and now offer a modern mix of two-bedroom amenity bungalows and two-bedroom general needs homes. Each development comprises seven homes, built with funding support of £1 million from the Scottish Government.

In line with North Ayrshire Council's drive towards sustainability, all the new homes are equipped with energy-efficient features including air source heat pumps, solar PV panels, triple glazing, and enhanced insulation. Homes with driveways are also fitted with electric vehicle charging points.

The completion of these homes marks another milestone in North Ayrshire Council's house-building programme, which aims to deliver over 1,600 new energy-efficient homes across the region. The council has already passed the halfway mark toward that goal.

Further development is ongoing, including the transformation of the former Garnock Academy site, where 50 additional homes are being built to serve the Garnock Valley.
