Fife Council has taken a significant step in its ambitious plans to revitalise Kirkcaldy town centre and its waterfront by appointing leading firms Collective Architecture and Montagu Evans to head a new masterplan.
This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for the area's long-term economic and social development.
The appointment follows the council's recent decision to demolish the town's two multi-storey car parks, paving the way for the extensive regeneration work. The project also aligns with the UK Government's Growth Mission Fund, which has specifically identified Kirkcaldy as a priority location for strategic investment, underscoring the national importance of this development.
The newly appointed masterplan team will work in close partnership with Fife Council, local stakeholders, and the community to develop a forward-looking vision and a comprehensive delivery strategy. A series of public engagement activities are planned to ensure residents, businesses, and community groups have a direct voice in shaping the future physical landscape of the town.
Councillor Altany Craik, Spokesperson for Finance, Economy and Strategic Planning, commented on the significance of the appointment: "This is a pivotal moment for Kirkcaldy. With the expertise of Collective Architecture and Montagu Evans, we are committed to delivering a masterplan that reflects the ambitions of our community and creates real, lasting change."
Councillor Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, emphasised the importance of public input: "We want to hear from as many people as possible as we shape this exciting new chapter for the town."
Further details on the project's progression and opportunities for community involvement are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The masterplan will lay the groundwork for future construction and infrastructure projects designed to rejuvenate the urban fabric of Kirkcaldy.
