Balfour Beatty has announced the appointment of Nick Rowan as Managing Director of its UK Construction Services Regional Scotland business, effective from 4 August 2025.
Rowan, who began his career with Balfour Beatty 30 years ago as a Graduate Surveyor, steps into the top regional role following a distinguished tenure with the company. A Chartered Surveyor, he has spent the past decade as Director for New Business in the Scotland region, following two decades in operational commercial roles.
His appointment highlights Balfour Beatty’s continued focus on developing and retaining internal talent. Over the years, Rowan has played a key role in expanding the company’s Scottish project portfolio. Notable achievements include securing major contracts such as the A9 Dualling Scheme for Transport Scotland and the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment offshore programme for SSEN Transmission.
He succeeds Hector MacAulay, who is set to retire at the end of the year after 40 years with the company. MacAulay has served as Managing Director of the Regional Scotland business since 2015 and will remain in an advisory role during the leadership transition.
Nick Crossfield, Divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty's UK Construction Services business, said: "Nick has a long and deep understanding of Balfour Beatty, having started his career with us as a graduate three decades ago.
There is a significant pipeline of work ahead in Scotland requiring close collaboration across teams. Nick is ideally placed to lead this growth, sustain our success and build on Hector's legacy. His appointment is also testament to the long and rewarding careers available in the construction and infrastructure industry, where talent and dedication is recognised and nurtured."
