Significant progress is being made towards the reinstatement of Dunrod Road, a crucial rural link between Greenock and Inverkip that has been closed for some time due to a partial failure and movement of the road caused by various factors, including landslip. Ground investigation works are scheduled to commence today, Monday, 16th June 2025, within the existing road closure and are expected to last for five weeks.
These ground investigation works are vital to gather detailed information on the existing ground conditions. The data collected will then inform the detailed design for the route realignment, a necessary step to develop a long-term solution and enable the road's safe reopening. The road has been closed since the summer of 2022.
Inverclyde Council has allocated £1.5 million to address the issues affecting Dunrod Road and to develop a comprehensive solution for its reopening.
The council is reminding the public that Dunrod Road remains closed to all traffic and urges individuals not to attempt to use the route.
Dunrod Road provides an important link to the Greenock Cut from Inverkip and the west. The other main access route to The Cut, from Drumfrochar Road, remains open and will not be affected by the ongoing ground investigation works.
