Construction is set to begin in late June on a new primary school, anticipated to be named Corbiewood Primary School, at the South Stirling Gateway development.
The seven-classroom facility, built by McLaughlin & Harvey, is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2026/27 academic term. This marks the first new school built within the Stirling Council area to support population growth since Newton Primary School opened in 1996.
The new school will be located in the heart of a major housing development that will deliver approximately 800 new homes, with nearly 200 designated for affordable housing. Planning permission for the school was granted on February 25, 2025. An additional four-classroom extension is planned for 2033/34, contingent on future enrolment figures.
Cllr Danny Gibson, Children and Young People Convener for Stirling Council, stated, "An exciting milestone in the South Stirling Gateway development has being reached with the appointment of a contractor to build this brand new primary school that will serve this emerging community. This modern, state of the art school epitomises Stirling Council’s commitment to its ongoing investment in learning infrastructure for our children and young people."
Chris Boyle, Framework Director at McLaughlin & Harvey, added, "We are delighted to be delivering a new primary school for Stirling Council that will be at the heart of the South Stirling Gateway development. This project offers the chance for us to deliver a modern, exciting building, which can help achieve educational excellence."
The new school will incorporate external sports facilities and landscaping, and will be connected to active travel routes serving Bannockburn and surrounding areas. While construction is underway, children from the South Stirling Gateway development will attend Bannockburn Primary School and will initially feed into Bannockburn High School. Developers received planning permission for the first 150 homes in the South Stirling Gateway development on April 30, 2024.
