The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) has announced its membership in the Future Homes Hub, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and ensuring a safe and effective solar transition across the UK. NFRC aims to bring its expertise to the forefront, advocating for competent operatives who understand the intricate nuances of construction work on roofs, particularly as solar installations become increasingly prevalent.
The Future Homes Hub serves as a collaborative platform, uniting stakeholders across the home building sector to collectively achieve climate and environmental goals. These goals are aligned with the UK Government's legally binding net-zero targets and broader environmental objectives. The sector acknowledges the significant scale and speed of the required transition, outlining its ambitions in a comprehensive delivery plan.
Members of the Future Homes Hub are actively working together on a wide array of critical topics, including the Future Homes Standard, embodied and whole life carbon, zero carbon placemaking, biodiversity net gain, water efficiency, resource efficiency, and air quality.
Ed Lockhart, CEO of The Future Homes Hub, welcomed NFRC's involvement: "New homes are undergoing rapid change to be ready for the climate and environmental challenges of the 21st century. No area of the economy is moving faster in this transition than the homes we build; the new homes sector will be nature positive through biodiversity net gain in 2023 and will be zero-carbon in operation through the Future Homes Standard in 2025."
Lockhart emphasized the collaborative responsibility: "We have a collective responsibility to deliver the sector's climate and environmental targets while building higher quality homes at the scale needed. We can only do this if we all work together. I am therefore delighted that NFRC has joined the Future Homes Hub to be part of this positive change."
NFRC stated its eagerness to contribute to this growing community, sharing its solutions and expertise to accelerate progress toward a net-zero future for the built environment.
