"I'm delighted to celebrate International Women's Day - not only recognising the brilliant women across Transmission but also the incredible male allies who actively advocate for equality," she said. Walker highlighted the company's reverse mentoring programme as a successful initiative, fostering open dialogue and deeper understanding. She encouraged individuals to "be brave - seize opportunities" and build strong networks.
Thomas Nicoll, Senior Communications Manager, acknowledged the progress in gender equality but emphasised the need for continued advocacy. "International Women's Day holds great significance for me," said Nicoll, who is the father of a young daughter. He highlighted the importance of showcasing women's achievements to inspire future generations and called for greater efforts to encourage women into STEM careers.
Cat Gourlay, Head of Customer & Stakeholder Projects, spoke about the power of opportunity and the importance of a supportive workplace culture. "International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the progress made toward achieving equality for all, regardless of gender," she said. Gourlay emphasised the value of stepping outside comfort zones and embracing new projects to advance careers.
Ricky Saez, Programme Director, Eastern Green Link, focused on the role of male allies in driving change. "To achieve true fairness, we need both merit and inclusion," said Saez, a father of four daughters. He outlined SSEN Transmission's week-long programme focused on inclusion, including engaging with industry partners to learn best practices. He encouraged everyone to consider how they can contribute to building a more inclusive future.
