Work is underway on the Wellpark Link project in Glasgow's Bellgrove area, which aims to improve public realm and enhance active travel connections.

The project, funded by the Glasgow City Region City Deal, will see improvements to footpaths and the installation of a new cycle lane along Melbourne Street, Wellpark Street, Barrack Street, and Hunter Street.

"I'm delighted that work has started to improve the walking, wheeling and cycling environment around the Meat Market area," said Cllr Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Region Cabinet. "These upgrades will make it easier and more appealing to travel actively, as well as improving connectivity with the city centre."

The project also includes the creation of a new, step-free pedestrian crossing on Bellgrove Street to improve access to the train station and the nearby Meat Market site.

The regeneration of the former Meat Market site is a key element of the £27 million Collegelands Calton Barras project, which aims to bring vacant and derelict land back into use, build new homes, and create commercial and community space.

The Glasgow City Region City Deal is funded by both the UK and Scottish Governments, with each providing £500 million in grant funding to the region's local authorities.
