Octopus Energy has announced the expansion of its innovative 'Zero Bills' initiative into the Scottish market.
Launched in 2022, 'Zero Bills' enables homeowners to move into properties equipped with state-of-the-art green technology, including heat pumps, batteries, and solar panels, with no energy bills for a period of 10 years.
Scotland, with its abundant renewable energy resources, provides an ideal environment for the implementation of this groundbreaking initiative.
The move follows the introduction of the New Build Heat Standard legislation in April 2024, which requires low-carbon heating systems in all new homes. Octopus Energy aims to go further by eliminating energy bills entirely for homeowners.
Octopus is collaborating with MAST Architects to develop a flagship 'Zero Bills' home design specifically for the Scottish market. The company has also partnered with Homes for Scotland to support the integration of this initiative within the Scottish housing sector.
Jim Bennett, Zero Bills Scotland Director at Octopus Energy, commented: "With the New Build Heat Standard legislation in place, now is the perfect time to bring 'Zero Bills' to Scotland."
Jane Wood, CEO of Homes for Scotland, said: "New homes in Scotland are already built to the highest technical standards which makes the 'Zero Bills' initiative even more exciting."
Michael Jarvis, Director at MAST Architects, highlighted the importance of creating energy-efficient homes: "At MAST Architects, addressing fuel poverty and improving people's livelihoods through the creation of energy-efficient homes is at the heart of our work."
Octopus Energy aims to deliver 100,000 'Zero Bills' homes by 2030 and has already successfully rolled out the initiative in England, Germany, and New Zealand.
