Temporis Capital, Clarke Energy, and Trina Storage have announced the start of construction on a 50MW/100MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Boat of Garten, Scottish Highlands.
Clarke Energy will act as the EPC contractor, while Trina Storage will supply the BESS system, including its Elementa solution. The project is expected to be operational in Q1 2026 and will provide essential grid balancing and stability services to the Scottish electricity network.
Clarke Energy will also provide a 16-year full O&M agreement, ensuring the long-term performance of the BESS. Trina Storage will offer performance guarantees for the Elementa units throughout the project's lifespan.
The project, developed by Gigabox Developments, is committed to biodiversity net gain and includes a comprehensive landscape planting plan to establish new trees, shrubs, and wildflowers. Gigabox will retain a minority stake in the project.
Tom Harada, Investment Director, Temporis Capital, said: "We are pleased to have reached such a critical milestone in contributing to the drive towards clean energy supply in the UK. This project is Temporis' first BESS project and is one of three being developed within its funds. We believe BESS projects will play a prominent role in alleviating the pressure on the grid, as generation from renewable sources increases."
Adam Wray-Summerson, Head of Sustainable Solutions of Clarke Energy Limited, said: "Clarke Energy are thrilled to have been selected as the delivery partner for Temporis' Boat of Garten Project. In wrapping Trina Storage Elementa BESS equipment in the overall EPC contract, Clarke Energy are helping to minimise delivery risk for our client and ensuring longevity of equipment performance throughout the life of the project – helping to support the necessary deployment of energy storage needed as the electricity grid continues to decarbonise."
Gabriele Buccini, Head of Trina Storage, said: "It is a great honour to be working with our valued partners, Temporis Capital and Clarke Energy, on this project. We share a common goal of decarbonising the energy industry in Scotland and the UK more widely. This collaboration underscores Trina Storage's commitment to continuous growth and innovation, as our vertically integrated Elementa storage system delivers cutting-edge solutions that support the transition to a sustainable energy future."
