SSEN Transmission Helps Prep Primary School Playground Area

A team of volunteers from SSEN Transmission recently lent a helping hand to prepare Shetland-based Lunnasting Primary School's playground area for upcoming works.

The volunteers, who are working on the Gremista to Kergord connection project, along with local contractors Morgan Sindall and EMN answered the call of the school's parent council which requested help in readying the ground for their new playground equipment.

Together the team cleared a flat area of ground ready for the school's new playground equipment to be installed. New outdoor blackboards were also fitted so pupils can get creative and draw on them with chalk.

"When we heard the primary school was in need of a helping hand to clear an area of ground in their playground to make way for their new apparatus, we immediately got a team together to help out," said SSEN Transmission's Community Liaison Manager, Thea Groat.

"Supporting the community through actions like this is really important to us – the new apparatus looks excellent and we hear that the pupils are thoroughly enjoying their new playground."

Meanwhile, Charlotte Allam, a member of the Parent Council at Lunnasting Primary School, said: "The new play equipment is fantastic and the children are making great use of it already. The garden project has been a real community effort, and we're delighted to have had the involvement of SSEN Transmission and local contractors. Thank you."

SSEN Transmission's Gremista to Kergord connection project involves creating a 22km connection between the new Gremista Grid Supply Point (GSP) and the Kergord Substation, using a combination of overhead line and underground cabling.

Once complete, the Kergord-Gremista link will provide a connection to Shetland's local electricity distribution network, connecting the islands to the GB energy system for the first time and helping to secure Shetland's future electricity supply.
