Amey has launched a programme of resurfacing improvement works on the A8 in Port Glasgow, working on behalf of Transport Scotland.
The works, expected to last until Saturday 31st August, will be carried out in three phases:
• Phase One
The structural reconstruction of the A8 eastbound carriageway between Comet Roundabout and Newark Roundabout. This will involve the overnight closure of the A8 eastbound between Kingston Roundabout and Newark Roundabout from Friday 9th August until Friday 16th August between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. After 10pm each night there will be no access to and from Anderson Street from Comet Roundabout. There will also be daytime single lane closures between Saturday 10th August and Friday 16th August. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Saturday 17th August.
• Phase Two
The structural reconstruction of the A8 westbound carriageway between Newark Roundabout and Comet Roundabout, including the Comet Roundabout circulatory. This will involve the overnight closure of the A8 westbound between Newark Roundabout and Kingston Roundabout from Saturday 17th August until Wednesday 21st August between 8pm and 6am each night. The link road between the Glasgow Road / A761 roundabout and Newark Roundabout northbound, as well as Fore Street, Comet Road and the Retail Park access from Comet Roundabout will be also closed each night. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Thursday 22nd August.
• Phase Three
The structural reconstruction of the A8 westbound carriageway between Woodhall Roundabout and Newark Roundabout. This will involve a full closure of the carriageway in this location between 8pm on Sunday 25th August and 6am on Saturday 31st August.
All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
