McLaughlin & Harvey Achieves Supply Chain Gold Status

McLaughlin & Harvey have been awarded gold status by the Supply Chain Sustainability School in recognition of their commitment to their Plant Charter.

Signatories to the Charter come from across the supply chain and commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from construction plant and equipment that they buy, hire, and use.

The award follows an audit from Action Sustainability on business practice and approach to sustainability over the past 12 months across five key commitments. McLaughlin & Harvey scored maximum points for each of the commitments to receive the maximum award of 15/15.

The five commitments include metrics to measure the activity levels and impact under the following key headings:

• Minimum standards in procurement: We will buy or hire plant that meets or exceeds the standards for Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas emissions defined under the charter. The Charter sets the market potential for the next 5 years to encourage innovation and development

• Engagement: We will continue to engage and support our supply chain to actively participate in meeting the same standards

• Awareness raising and education: We commit to providing our supply chain with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to achieve our aims

• Measurement and reporting: We will continue to measure progress in reducing our emissions and report them to relevant stakeholders

• Innovation: We will investigate, trial and implement new technologies that will help ourselves and our supply chain on the route to zero emissions onsite

Carl Rushton, Head of Sustainability at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: "This is a tremendous recognition of the commitment from our Boards, procurement and delivery teams to net zero. The audited activities over the past 12 months included personal engagement with over 200 staff members from our supply chain, 445 staff trained in CPD-accredited carbon reduction programmes and dedication from our procurement teams in only hiring and buying plant and equipment to satisfy or exceed the levels defined in the charter."

Becoming a Charter signatory is part of McLaughlin & Harvey’s 2030 Net Zero Strategy which reinforces our commitment to go beyond current government legislation by focusing on:

• Reducing our environmental footprint with sustainable impact across all our civil engineering and construction projects

• Making a positive difference to our clients’ projects and supporting the delivery of net zero in the local communities that we work in
