SSEN Announces £10.6m Programme Of Upgrade Works

SSEN has announced a £10.6 million programme of upgrade works for Borden and Alton, set to benefit over 30,000 homes and businesses.

The next stage of this significant network upgrade will result in some temporary traffic management to enable safe working in the following locations:

• Mill Chase Road: Phase 1 from Hollywater Road to Hamilton Close: 24 July to 31 July 2023

• Mill Chase Road: Phase 2 from Hollybrook Park to Meadow View: 17 August to 5 September 2023

• Mill Chase Road: Phase 3 from Meadow View to Hollywater Road: 6 September to 6 December 2023

To update those living and working in the vicinity of these next phases, SSEN is holding a community engagement event, where local residents, business owners and stakeholders can come along to meet the team, and talk through the works and any concerns they might have. Advance Works Notices are already being posted out to 5069 properties around Bordon to inform customers of the works and drop-in event.

The event is open to all and details are:

This multi-million pound programme of works to upgrade the network for customers in Alton and Bordon began in May 2023 and will run until September 2024. The works will future-proof and strengthen the area's power supplies to cope with severe weather events, while accommodating an increased uptake of low carbon technologies, as customers look to meet their net zero goals.

In addition to building a new substation in Bordon and upgrading substation connections, the distribution operator will replace 18 kilometres of existing underground power cables and associated infrastructure with more modern, sustainable and efficient equipment that will keep the power flowing for those living and working in the area.

SSEN's Project Manager for the works, Martin Powel said: "I'd like to thank the community of Bordon for their patience and understanding as we carry out this significant upgrade to their power supplies. The project is progressing well and we are about to enter the next section of works.

"As this will involve temporary traffic management, we want to extend a welcome to all of those who can attend our engagement event on 20 July, where I and my team will be on hand to talk through the works and answer any questions people might have. All of these measures have been carefully planned with both Highways England the Hampshire County Council to ensure that the potential for noise or disruption have been minimised."

Martin added: "To further update local residents, business owners and interested parties, SSEN's project page provides information on the works as they progress, along with easy-to-access points of contact."

There are no planned power interruptions scheduled to take place during the works, but anyone who has concerns about vulnerability during power cuts is reminded of SSEN's Priority Services Register.
