SSE 'stand ready' to invest in energy sustainability and climate action, Chief Executive Alistair Phillips-Davies has said in response to the UK government's 'Powering up Britain' plan.

Mr Phillips-Davies said: "While the Humber – the UK's most carbon intensive region – was not chosen to be among the first carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects to progress, we stand ready to invest and will work with government to get shovels in the ground as quickly as possible.

"There remains an opportunity to be bold on CCS and help make the UK the easiest place in the world to invest in low carbon technologies.

"It is therefore vital we get clarity on timescales for the Humber and the North East of Scotland if the UK is to meet its climate commitments and boost energy independence."
