M9 Carriageway Resurfacing Works Set To Get Underway

Construction News Image
Transport Scotland's operating company, BEAR Scotland, is set to resurface 0.8 kilometres of the M9 northbound main carriageway prior to Junction 1A and 0.5 kilometres of the M9 northbound Junction 1A off-slip during four overnight closures commencing on Thursday 29 July.

On the nights of 29 and 30 July, the M9 northbound will be closed between Junction 1 and Junction 1A from 20:30 until 06:00. A diversion route for northbound traffic will be signposted via the A8, A902, A90 and A904 to M9 Junction 2, adding approximately 19 minutes and 8.4 miles to affected journeys. Southbound traffic on the M90 will still be able to join the M9 in either direction via Junction 1A.

On the nights of 02 and 03 August, the M9 northbound Junction 1A off-slip will be closed from 20:30 until 06:00. A diversion route for traffic wishing to join the M90 will be signposted via M9 Junction 3, returning on the M9 southbound to exit via the M9 southbound Junction 1A off-slip. This diversion will add approximately 14 minutes and 12.3 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland's South East Network Manager, said: "These surfacing improvements will improve the road quality and safety for motorists on this section of the M9.

"Carriageway and slip road closures are essential for the safety of workers and motorists, however we've planned the works to take place overnight to minimise any disruption. We've also planned these works so that we will only be diverting trunk road traffic onto local roads when there is no alternative.

"We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible and thank motorists in advance for their patience."

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
