A total of £184,000 has been invested to refurbish a nursery in Dufftown, Moray.

The Morrison Construction-led refurbishment at Mortlach Nursery started in the summer holidays, with the official opening taking place on 26 October when Willow Coutts cut the ribbon to let her friends into their modernised nursery.

For the first time children have direct access to their nursery, without having to enter through the school, giving better access to the newly enhanced covered outdoor space and playground, complete with picnic benches from Joseph Brown Vats. The children’s toilets and kitchen area have all been upgraded as part of the Scottish Government's expansion of early learning and childcare (ELC) and will see Mortlach offer the increased hours of 1,140 a year for three and four year-olds in the new year.

Senior Project Manager of the ELC expansion for Moray Council, Robin Paterson, said: "Following the completion of our new-build nurseries at Cullen and Pilmuir, the opening of the refurbished nursery at Mortlach demonstrates our commitment to providing a quality ELC experience for all children living in Moray, including those in our more rural communities."
