SSE has welcomed a proposal to phase out petrol and diesel cars by 2035, with an increase in significant public EV charging infrastructure.
Alistair Phillips-Davies, SSE Chief Executive, said: "With the right frameworks in place the UK could have the most extensive EV charging network in the world by 2025, helping drivers make the switch to EVs.
"Accelerated action on the electrification of transport is a good start in this COP26 year. There are, however, many more opportunities for greater action in the UK with increased renewables ambition and progress on carbon capture and storage at the front of the queue.
"Strong UK leadership will encourage greater international ambition. SSE stands ready to help the government deliver."
