Ogilve Construction have started worked on a new £20 million student residence in Glasgow.
A ground breaking ceremony was held at New City Road, to mark the launch of work on the second facility for Bricks Capital and their 'true student' brand.
The 13 storey L-shaped tower will create 315 high-quality rooms in a mix of individual studios and shared apartments with associated communal areas. Students will benefit from a range of facilities including a gym, cinema, as well as study areas and laundry facilities. The building is expected to open in late summer of 2020. It is ideally located for quick access to the universities, city centre and public transport links.
The first 'true student' residence in the city, also built by Ogilvie, opened in Kelvinhaugh Street in the West End in 2017, providing 592 rooms in a first class environment that helps students make the most of their university experience. This development won the prestigious Property Week's "UK Private Halls of Residence of the Year 2018".
Marking the start of work, Donald MacDonald, Managing Director, Ogilvie Construction, said: "We are proud to continue our partnership with Bricks Capital and look forward to handing over a building of the highest standard incorporating the latest sustainable materials and design. When complete, the building will create a unique modern city living environment for students in Glasgow."
Ogilvie Construction is part of the Ogilvie Group, one of Scotland's most consistently successful family owned businesses. The company is over 65 years old and employs over 550 people across its various business operations.
