Outline Planning Permission Granted For New Glasgow Development

Outline planning permission has been granted for a new 600 home development in the north of Glasgow.

Glasgow City Council has approved planning permission in principle for a Queens Cross Housing Association driven project to transform the Hamiltonhill area into a 21st Century suburb close to the city centre.

The development will deliver 300 social rented and 300 private new homes with parks and green space, all made possible by a sustainable drainage system linked to the Forth and Clyde Canal.

There will also be a small community and commercial development as part of the overall masterplan that will transform long term vacant and derelict land into a new neighbourhood.

Queens Cross Housing Association's chief executive, Shona Stephen, said: "We are delighted to be able to move on to the delivery phase of this development, which has the potential to shape up as a whole new quarter of the city.

"Within easy walking distance to the city centre, it will have real appeal for families keen to live in a clean and green environment, close to where they work."

The development, located within the Glasgow Canal Regeneration Partnership area and part of the North Gateway, is just north of the City Centre.

"We have been working with the local community and Glasgow City Council for three years to create a sustainable plan for the area. We will continue to work closely with local residents to ensure they are at the centre of the regeneration process at Hamiltonhill," added Shona.

"This has been another successful year for Queens Cross and it great news that we are able to move into the New Year on a high."

The current plan is that the development will be built over four phases with further planning consent required for each stage.

Queens Cross will work to appoint a private sector development partner over the course of the next few months with preliminary work starting on site in Spring 2019.
