The latest £3.25 million phase of an external wall insulation (EWI) programme in Dundee will provide warmer, more energy efficient homes at another 415 properties.

Work at Broughty Ferry and Craigiebank will cover the homes of both council tenants and owner occupiers. Councillors approved a spending programme at a meeting of the neighbourhood services committee on Monday (September 24).

Neighbourhood services convener Councillor Kevin Cordell explained that the EWI programme has had a major impact across the city.


He said: "Over 5,000 properties have benefited from this scheme and total investment so far amounts to around £45 million over several years.

"This latest phase is a serious investment across Broughty Ferry and Craigiebank.

"The insulation scheme is made possible through the Home Energy Efficiency Programme for Scotland from the Scottish Government, with contributions from the Energy Company Obligation.

"This means that owner occupiers can also benefit from the works at no cost."

Councillor Cordell added: "This programme in Dundee shows how serious we are about tackling fuel poverty and helping make the city a better place for everyone.

"Our efforts have been recognised by the presentation of the Energy Efficiency Awards title of Council of the Year."
