Work Progresses On Complex Sewer Repair In Clydebank

Complex repair work is progressing on a collapsed sewer in Great Western Road (A82), Clydebank.

The 84-year-old sewer collapsed recently under the central reservation resulting in a tree falling into the void below. It caused sub-soil and debris to wash further downstream and choke a main sewer connection some 17 metres deep.

The engineers have described the project as one of the most challenging pieces of work they have ever undertaken.

A short stretch of the outside lane of the west-bound carriageway of the road near the Drumry roundabout remains closed while the work progresses to replace a section of waste water pipe that was damaged following tree root ingress.

Contractors working for Scottish Water have used a jetting tanker with suction and CCTV to clear a choke in the network and are using specialist equipment to repair the sewer.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said: "This is one of the most complex jobs of this kind that we can remember.

"We don't usually deal with anything as deep and we are working at the limit of what our equipment can deal with.

"The scale and nature of this work means that the road traffic management is necessary to protect road users and workers and enable vehicular access to the site.

"But we are continuing to do everything we can to complete this work and re-open the closed lane as quickly as possible.

"We apologise for any inconvenience to road users and thank them for their patience and understanding."
