A new signalised pedestrian crossing is to be installed near Balbirnie Mains in Glenrothes, Fife.
Following extensive investigation works by Transport Scotland, the new crossing will be built as part of further improvements on the A92.
Detailed design work for the traffic signal controlled crossing is now underway, with a view to having it in place before the end of the financial year.
The project is being carried out following the death of nine-year-old Logan Carrie, who was killed in a road accident at the location three years ago.
Transport Minister Humza Yousaf said: "I previously visited this site and met with Logan’s family. I promised them that my officials would develop a practical solution to improve pedestrian access at this point on the A92 to help prevent a repeat of these tragic circumstances.
"The proposed crossing is the result of that work. We will also continue to engage with Fife Council and other stakeholders to ensure the crossing is linked to the surrounding path network.
"I also recently met stakeholders regarding their concerns at Cadham and Balfarg junctions. Transport Scotland has outlined a series of potential options for these locations, and these will be assessed over the course of the summer."
