New figures have revealed a 6% rise in the number of new households over the last 10 years in Scotland.

According to the 'Estimates of Households and Dwellings in Scotland, 2017' data, the number of Scottish households has continued to increase to 2.46 million in 2017, with around 145,000 more in the last decade.

The Scottish Household Survey 2016 also reveals over a third of households are single person households, and just over 900,000 people are living alone.

On a regional basis, the greatest relative increases occurred in Midlothian and the Orkney Islands.
