A number of new community facilities are being created at Milngavie Youth Centre in East Dunbartonshire.

The scheme involves installing new public toilets, meeting/office space and a new information point.

Previously, the council committed £60,000 in capital funding for a community management and empowerment programme, and work is now coming to fruition.

Milngavie Youth Centre Chairperson Gordon McCorkindale said: "The youth centre trustees are delighted with recent progress on the new facilities.

"It has taken longer than we anticipated - due to a number of projects and construction challenges - but we are pleased that the toilets and meetings spaces are scheduled to be available from the end of March.

"We are grateful for the support of East Dunbartonshire Council and a number of organisations for their assistance."

Thomas Glen, the Council's Depute Chief Executive - Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, said, "I'm delighted that the Council has been able to facilitate this development, which has been a great example of partnership working with community organisations to benefit the local area.

"Not only will this meet a long-standing demand for local toilet facilities it will support a range of local groups and services - as well as catering for visitors and walkers embarking on the West Highland Way. I look forward to seeing the new facilities when they are fully up and running."
