MCL Construction has been appointed to carry out an environmental improvement project at the Kilgallioch Windfarm site in Dumfries and Galloway.

The Dumfries-based contractor has already started work on the scheme and completion is scheduled before the end of this year.

The project, which will improve paths and picnic areas for walkers on the Southern Upland Way, is being carried out as part of ScottishPower Renewables' planning consent for the 96-turbine Kilgallioch scheme.

• 1.5km of existing path remediation from the Standing Stones, to the most southerly access point on the windfarm

• The creation of a new picnic area at the top of Craig Airlie Fell

• The supply of a new picnic table outside the Beehive Bothy

Kenny Peberdy, UK Onshore Director for ScottishPower Renewables, said: "We are pleased to have appointed MCL, who have a wealth of experience in delivering environmental improvement works."

The Kilgallioch Windfarm was officially opened in September and has a capacity of 239 megawatts, creating enough electricity to meet the demands of more than 140,000 homes.
