Work To Start On £6.7m Banchory Sports Village

Work is to begin on a new £6.7 million sports village in Aberdeenshire.

Construction on the Banchory Sports Village is scheduled to start in August.

Features will include a reception/café area, a 6-lane swimming pool, training pool, 3 court sports hall, fitness room, 2 squash courts/multi-purpose area, changing areas and meeting rooms. In addition, the facility will be heated from the existing district heating network in Banchory.

The scheme is expected to take 18 months to complete and is set to open by January 2019.

Welcoming the decision to proceed with the development, Provost Howatson said: "This announcement will be welcomed in Banchory and we applaud the enthusiasm and commitment of local people for their fundraising efforts in order for them to realise the town's ambition for new sporting facilities."
