Morrison Construction is continuing work to build a new £44 million education campus in North Ayrshire.

Work on the Largs Campus project is a third of the way complete, with steel frames now erected.

Once finished, the facility will incorporate a new early years centre, a relocated Largs Academy, a relocated St Mary's RC Primary School and amalgamated Brisbane and Kelburn Primary schools.

Designed by JM Architects, it will provide enough space for 1,200 secondary school pupils, 210 denominational primary pupils, 610 non-denominational primary pupils and 100 early years places, as well as core leisure and community provision to the surrounding area.

The council's Executive Director (Education and Youth Employment) John Butcher was joined by senior managers earlier this week to assess progress at the site.

Speaking after his visit, Mr Butcher said: "We were all delighted with what we saw during our latest visit. Six months ago we had the vision, the dream and the designs. That was all very exciting but this recent visit has taken things to a new level and we now have a clearer idea of what the school is going to look like in reality.

"It is going to be a stunning facility. We are creating an environment to bring out the very best in our young people. As the development progresses further we hope to share this with pupils to build up expectation ahead of the opening."
