A town centre improvement project is set to begin in East Renfrewshire.

Work will be carried out in Clarkston town centre to upgrade the pedestrian access around the entrance to the train station, as well as areas around the library and Clarkston Halls.

The improvements were suggested by residents, businesses and community groups as part of the Clarkston: Your Town initiative.

Features include installing a new trial street layout on Busby Road, featuring wider footpaths to create a 'café culture' and more public space for meeting/sitting out.

Other works will see a new clear pedestrian route across the entrance to the railway station and roof car park, and the creation of a safe walking route across the Goods Yard car park to both the library and Clarkston Hall.

Once completed, the temporary street layout on Busby Road will be assessed to see whether the change will be made permanent.

Cllr Tony Buchanan said: "We are working with the community on a long term vision to deliver change for those who live, work and visit Clarkston. These changes to transform the town for pedestrians are the first steps in implementing some of the ideas we heard in our engagement events."
