LEADER Funding Granted For Two Orkney Community Projects

LEADER funding has been granted for two community projects in Orkney.

Over £2.5 million was awarded to the programme from the Scottish Government and European Community, which aims to help develop local small-scale community projects.

The Kirkwall Bowling Club has secured funding to install an artificial outdoor bowling green and Burray Community Association will upgrade Burray Hall into a more modern and energy efficient facility.

Both groups also received funding from the Council’s Community Development Fund to support the projects.

Cllr James Stockan said: "LEADER has already brought many benefits to our communities over the last decade and we are very pleased to see that more projects are receiving financial assistance. Facilities such as bowling greens and community halls are central for bringing communities together, and it’s essential that we continue to support these developments."
