Angus HA Selects Eco Insulate For Energy Efficiency Project

Construction News Image
As part of their policy to continually invest in their housing stock Angus Housing Association recently embarked on a capital works programme to improve the thermal performance of their properties. This will help them achieve the requirements of EESSH by improving the energy efficiency of their many flatted properties which fall into the Hard to Treat category.

The decision to proceed was based on 4 pilot projects carried out over the last two years by eco Insulate Ltd with the performance of the properties being monitored by Robert Gordon University. The encouraging results led to the Association appointing Hamish Bell Associates to issue tender documents to a number of specialist contractors. Eco Insulate Ltd were subsequently awarded the contract to treat 37 houses based on a combination of their competitive rates, quality and service performance criteria.

The properties, which are traditionally built were treated using BASF Elastopor open cell foam, injected into the void between the internal plaster finish and solid masonry walls. This ensured that the overall external appearance of the buildings was maintained. There was no need to decant tenants while the work proceeded which saved the Association time and costs for temporary accommodation. Each flat was treated within one day, minimising any inconvenience to tenants. The contract ran extremely smoothly and the efficient working methods resulted in lower than anticipated costs which subsequently allowed 18 additional properties to be treated. Tenant feedback forms were issued on completion of each property allowing the performance of the eco Insulate Ltd to be closely monitored. The results were very positive stating that tenants believed the quality of installation and overall experience of the insulation team was Excellent or Good.
