The new Scottish Government must "fully understand" various business models of home building, according to trade body Homes for Scotland (HfS).
Chief Executive Nicola Barclay set out the organisations objectives for the new government at its Annual Lunch in Edinburgh on 20 May.
Ms Barclay stressed the importance of maintaining the current planning review momentum and the need for the industry to be involved in shaping new development land tax proposals.
HfS said industry participation would enable the new government to comprehend business models used in the housing sector, ensuring the delivery of more homes and avoiding any unintended consequences.
Ms Barclay said: "We need to drive home the positive benefits home building offers, not only in terms of jobs and the economy but also in ensuring the sustainability and vibrancy of our communities."
