A newly built primary school in East Dunbartonshire has won an accolade at the Scottish Property Awards.

The £7.7 million Lairdsland Primary School was named the winner of the Development of the Year category for public buildings.

It was developed by hub West Scotland on the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal in Kirkintilloch.

In addition, it was the first school to be built through the council's Primary School Improvement Programme and was partly funded by Scottish Futures Trust, which went on to select the building as a reference design Primary School for Scotland.

Council Leader, Rhondda Geekie said: "Lairdsland Primary School provides a modern, bright and inspirational learning environment for pupils and it is easy to see why it has been established as a reference design for Scotland, informing a number of new school designs across the country."

Debbie McNamara, Chief Executive of hub West Scotland, added: "I am delighted to see Lairdsland, our first school delivered with East Dunbartonshire Council, gaining such important recognition from the Scottish Property Awards."
