Work is due to begin to connect a historic castle and museum to Scotland's sewer network, it has been announced.

The £500,000 project at Broughty Ferry Castle Museum in Dundee will get underway today, 05 January and will last for approximately 12 weeks.

The works will be carried out by contractors Amey Black and Veatch (aBV).

The upgrade will make sure waste from the castle and museum is taken and treated to a high standard before being returned to the environment.

Scottish Water Regional Community Manager, Ruaridh MacGregor, said: "Work of this nature is essential to ensure waste and sewage is treated to the highest possible standard and often requires excavations to access the sewer network.

"We do all we can to keep this to a minimum and have been liaising closely with our contractor, SEPA and Dundee City Council to ensure this work is carried out with the least amount of disruption and at the most suitable time."
