Approval Granted For £21.4m Scottish Borders School

Plans to develop a new £21.4 million school in the Scottish Borders have been granted approval.

The Scottish Government announced yesterday that an EU ruling affecting 12 capital projects across the country had now been resolved.

Construction work on the new Kelso High School is due to begin at Nethershot on Angraflat Road in early 2016.

The building will be delivered in partnership with hub South East Scotland and Morrison Construction.

Councillor Sandy Aitchison said: "I am pleased that the issues which have held back the new Kelso High School have finally been settled.

"The new school will include grass and synthetic sports pitches and community facilities, which will provide health and educational benefits for not just generations of schoolchildren but the whole town."

Paul McGirk, Chief Executive of Hub South East Scotland, added: "This is excellent news and we will now proceed as quickly as possible to financial close on Kelso High School, paving the way for our Tier 1 Contractor - Morrison Construction - to begin work on site."
