West Lothian Council has announced it is making significant progress towards a new £2.7m partnership centre.

The Council Executive has now given its approval to go-ahead with the next stages of the project.

Community engagement and design development phases for the East Calder Partnership Centre have already been completed.

In addition, the area adjacent to NHS Lothian has been chosen as the development site.

Feedback from local groups and individuals has helped shape proposals, including what facilities will be in the new centre.

Council Leader John McGinty said: "Partnership centres, such as Bathgate and Fauldhouse, have delivered real boosts for their communities, so I'm delighted to see the plans for East Calder take a major step forward.

"The new East Calder Partnership Centre will create a real focal point in the village by bringing services together in a modern flexible building with multi-function halls, meeting rooms, library, council information, and much more.

"It will also support for groups such as early years, play, out of school and youth work, as well as offering changing and storage for sport and outdoor activities in the nearby park and pitches."

A planning application is due to be submitted and the centre is due to be operational by spring 2017.
