West Dunbartonshire Council has announced an over £4m works programme to improve the regions cemeteries and crematorium.

The council is currently developing a new Dumbarton Cemetery in Garshake Road.

Over the next year, Vale of Leven and Kilmarnock cemeteries are being extended to ensure they can continue to meet the needs of the community.

Infrastructure works are also being carried out at North Dalnotter to extend the area of land used for burials.

A £1.5m refurbishment programme is also set to begin at Clydebank Crematorium this week which will upgrade the facility and ensure the crematorium continues to meet environmental regulations.

The allow the works to progress, the crematorium will be closed every Monday and Saturday until 8 February 2016.

In addition, the crematorium will be fully closed for 17 days from 21 August to 7 September.

Councillor David McBride said: "The works at Clydebank crematorium are part of wider investment in our cemeteries to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of our communities in future."
