The Scottish Government has confirmed its satisfaction with East Ayrshire Council's plans for a new £63.5m educational campus at Cumnock.

The proposals will see the merger of Auchinleck Academy and Cumnock Academy, with Barshare Primary School and Greenmill Primary School also merging.

The new campus will offer integrated, modern and fully inclusive learning and enterprise opportunities for children and young people.

A new academy, a new primary school and a new-build Hillside School will all be located at one campus on Broomfield Playing Fields at Auchinleck Road, Cumnock.

Council Leader Douglas Reid said: "I'm pleased the Scottish Government has agreed our proposals, which represent an unprecedented investment of £63.5m in education in the Auchinleck and Cumnock areas."

Alan Ward, East Ayrshire Council’s Head of Education said: "The new campus will have some of the best educational facilities in the UK, as well as featuring first-class sports, recreational and ICT facilities, which will also be available to local communities."
