A new footpath at the Ford Bridge in Plains has been completed.
The new £200,000 pathway was developed by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), charity Sustrans and the council.
The local schools and community council were involved in the project design and planning.
The pathway has been significantly widened, while the path for cyclists using National Cycle Route 75 between Glasgow and Edinburgh has been improved.
Councillor James Coyle said: "Local residents and the community council raised concerns with us about the safety of the footpath because it was so narrow, and I am delighted that with help from SPT and Sustrans we have been able to deliver this new footpath."
Paul Downie, Community Links Project Officer at Sustrans, said: "The footway of the bridge used to be a real bottle-neck for both pedestrians and cyclists on the National Cycle Network Route 75. The improvements that have been made mean that users of the route will now have the space they need to make their journeys safely and comfortably."
