HLF Awards Grants For Historic Parks Restoration

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded grants for the restoration of two historic parks in East Ayshire.

The awards amounting to £7.2 million will be invested in both Dean Castle Park in Ayrshire and Lews Castle Grounds in Stornoway.

Over £3 million will be spent on Dean Castle Park, with proposals to develop a new civic space for outdoor theatre, restoring the designed landscapes of the formal gardens and improving the visitors centre.

A new bridge and 6km of path will also be developed.

Lews Castle Grounds has been awarded £3.9 million of the HLF funding.

Regeneration schemes such as the redevelopment of Lews Castle and the Stornoway Townscape Heritage Initiative will be undertaken.

Head of the HLF in Scotland, Colin McLean, said: "Using funds raised through the National Lottery, HLF is able to protect these precious places helping make a difference to the quality of life for millions of Scots."
