Aberdeen City Council has agreed to progress plans for a new school in the Stoneywood area.

The £13 million building will be developed on the site of the former Bankhead Academy.

The Education and Children's Services Committee received feedback on a statutory public consultation process at a meeting on 2 June.

The project will involve the re-zoning of land to the north of the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road, currently in the catchment area of Brimmond School.

Funding for the new school has been allocated in the council's five-year Capital Programme.

The majority of consultation responses were in favour of both the school and the preferred site.

Councillor Angela Taylor said: "We are very pleased to see this project moving forward.

"It is one of several new schools that are being built as part of our capital programme, in addition to a new academy for the south of the city."
