£1.4m West Lothian School Extension Opened

A new £1.4m hall extension at Balbardie Primary School in Bathgate, West Lothian, has been officially opened.

Myra Macpherson MBE, who was Head Teacher at Balbardie from 1980 to 2002, officially opened the new extension.

The school has a roll of 437 and the extension includes a new hall and dining facilities.

Myra Macpherson said: "I'm thrilled to have been invited back to Balbardie Primary School to perform the opening of the new £1.4m hall extension. I have very fond memories of the staff and pupils who were there during my time at the school. It is great to receive such a warm welcome and to meet the staff and pupils."

Head Teacher Greg Welsh added: "We are all delighted with improvements to the school and the new hall. We were also particularly pleased to welcome Myra, who has such a fantastic reputation. Many of our parents/carers today were at the school when Mrs Macpherson was the Head Teacher and they still talk about their very positive experiences during that time."

Executive councillor for education Lawrence Fitzpatrick commented: "The council was absolutely delighted when Myra agreed to officially open the new extension at Balbardie Primary School. Myra was a very popular Head Teacher and she is also a valuable appointed member of West Lothian Council's Education Executive committee and an active member of her community. The new hall extension will be warmly welcomed by the pupils, staff and the wider community."
