Firms Encouraged To Attend Galashiels TI Open Day

The Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has said employment opportunities are still available for firms looking to get involved in the Galashiels Transport Interchange project.

A number of sub-contractors are already working on the £5.2m scheme, but there are still opportunities available for other companies.

Next week, on Friday 6 February, an open day will be held at the Galashiels Transport Interchange site office of contractor Morrison Construction from 8am to 4.30pm. Attendees interested to get involved in the project as a sub-contractor are encouraged to come along to hear more information. There will be opportunities for firms to work on a range on internal trades, cladding and external works packages.

Councillor Stuart Bell, Executive Member for Economic Development, commented: "Galashiels Transport Interchange is progressing well, with the building now taking shape ahead of its summer opening. It will play a key role in the Council's long term aim to provide better connections between all means of sustainable transport.

"Despite the project heading into its final stages, there are still opportunities for employment. The Council remains committed to supporting communities across the region throughout the construction and delivery of the Transport Interchange, and would encourage any local people to attend the open day and find out more about the project."

Paul McGirk, Chief Executive of Hub South East Scotland Ltd, added: "One of the key aims of the Hub initiative is to ensure the delivery of community benefits for local people.

"This includes promoting opportunities for employment within our supply chain and to this end we are keen to attract as many people as possible to this event in the Borders. We would encourage local people in the area to come along and find out more."

Derek Scotland, Project Director at Morrison Construction, said: "An event such as this has an incredibly important role to play in giving local businesses involved with the construction industry an insight into future opportunities within the area.

"Our role is much wider than simply delivering projects. Morrison Construction recognise the need to support and work with the local supply chain at each stage of a development and want local companies to benefit from local opportunities wherever possible and support the growth of the local area.

"This event will do exactly that – helping businesses to build crucial relationships and win contracts, which Morrison Construction will encourage and facilitate."

More information on the event can be found on the Hub South East Scotland website.
