Supermarket chain Lidl is reportedly planning to expand its business in Scotland.

According to the BBC, the retailer proposes to build at least three new stores in the country, as well as refurbish or relocate some of its existing outlets over the next 12 months. It has also been said its Scottish Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) could move from Livingston to a larger site in Armadale next year, having sought permission from the local authority.

Lidl employs around 1,800 people in Scotland, and it is thought an additional 500 jobs could be created under the expansion plans.

Ross Millar, Lidl's managing director in Scotland, is quoted by the BBC as saying: "We're focused on one single goal – ensuring our customers receive the freshest, highest quality products possible at the best value. This latest phase in our growth is a testament to the continuing success of Lidl in Scotland."
