Environmental Works Planned For Gretna Green

A public consultation is to be held later this week for the local communities in the Gretna Green and Springfield areas.

The event will see designs for a number of environmental improvement works, which are due to commence shortly, go on display.

The improvement plans have been developed by Dumfries and Galloway Council, the Gretna Regeneration Steering Group, the CX Project and specialist designers Ironside Farrer of Edinburgh; and are based on the Gretna Master Plan. The local authority is funding the works.

Councillor Craig Peacock, Vice Chair of the Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, said: "I am very pleased at the way the local community, our Council and the CX Project have worked together to develop these plans which were approved by the Committee in July 2014.

"The works are costing £250,000 and this is being funded through the Council's Capital Programme which is specifically for this type of scheme. The first phase of the works will start very soon."

Melvyn Redgers, Chair of the Gretna Regeneration Steering Group, is quoted as saying: "These environmental enhancements are part of a programme of work that will take place over the next few years based on the Gretna Master plan. Gretna Green has an international profile and it is important that the local environment reflects this."

The information event will be held at The Stormont Hall, Gretna Green, on Thursday 8 January from 4pm to 7pm. The plans can also be viewed online.
