An off-shore wind turbine has been nominated for 'Engineering Excellence' at this year's Scottish Green Awards.

The nomination, for Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Graham Construction, is for the 7MW turbine located off the coast at Methil Docks. The turbine, which is said to be the largest off-shore structure of its kind, was completed in October 2013.

SHI invested £70m into the project, which could remain in place for up to five years.

Don MacKay, EDF Energy Renewables' Director of Construction and Engineering, said: "The quality of the entries presented to the panel was astounding. It really brought home not only the number of players and projects in the renewables sector in Scotland, but also the breadth and depth of their activity. The awards ceremony will provide a real showcase for the industry and those involved in it."

Sponsored by EDF Energy Renewables and now in its 12th year, the awards this year reflect the "fast-paced and innovative nature" of the country's renewable energy sector.

The award winners will be announced on 23 November, 2014.
