Work to reduce the threat of internal sewer flooding at Bank Street, Cupar, has commenced.

The £150,000 project is expected to be completed early next month.

During previous periods of heavy rainfall, the sewer network at Bank Street has been unable to cope, bringing the threat of Internal Sewer Flooding. A detailed site inspection and hydraulic modelling was carried out at the site, which resulted in a problem in the sewer network being confirmed. An appropriate solution was then identified, and work started on the project. The work involves laying 175m of new sewer pipe, and four new manholes.

Richard Morris, Project Manager with Scottish Water, said: "The project is progressing very well and is a great example of Scottish Water's commitment to lift the threat of flooding from our customers. Internal sewer flooding is extremely unpleasant and distressing for those affected.

"While there is some short term inconvenience from the on-going works in Bank Street, the long-term benefits make it well worthwhile. We have reassured residents in the area that everything possible is being done to keep disruption from the works to an absolute minimum."
