Work on a temporary swimming pool, which is being constructed in a car park in Dumfries, is almost complete.
The 'DG One @ Ice Bowl' is set to provide swimming facilities to the local area while a 17-month major refurbishment gets underway at the DG One Leisure Complex.
The 25m pool, located in the car park of the Dumfries Ice Bowl, is 1.2m deep has five swimming lanes and can accommodate up to 80 people. It is also fully DDA compliant and features a fully accessible disabled changing area, as well as two Changing Villages.
The facility is expected to open its doors on Monday 6 October.
Dumfries and Galloway Council Leader Ronnie Nicholson, commented: "This facility is terrific for the region. As soon as you walk through the door you feel you are in a state of the art swimming area. The pool is a good size, there are super changing areas available, particularly accessible for families due to the communal nature of them.
"The facility will allow current customers of DG One to keep up their swimming activity, be it a family swim on a weekend to competitive Club Swimming every day. Our Council committed to provide this facility and, like the Loreburn Hall, I look forward to seeing people in them, using them and having fun."
The temporary facility is located on the left-hand side of the Dumfries Ice Bowl, while car parking is available in the Queen of the South Arena car park – the former Tesco site. From there, users can walk through a refurbished walkway to get to the swimming pool. The walkway has been fitted with new streetlights to enhance public safety and make the walk more user-friendly.
