A major milestone has been reached on the A77 Symington and Bogend Toll Improvements scheme, with the opening of the Bogend Toll Bridge to road users.

The move follows the opening of the Symington Bridge last month.

Other improvements in the £10.6m scheme include upgrades to junctions and accesses, new footways and cycleways and the new Whitelees Link Road.

Attending the opening, Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "The A77 is one of Scotland's key routes and the works here on the £10.6 million Symington and Bogend Toll Improvements scheme forms part of some £36.7 million to upgrade the A77 and A75 and improve access to our key ports.

"The new Bogend Toll and Symington bridges will allow road users to join and leave the A77 without having to cut across oncoming traffic, making the A77 much safer. Work has continued on the scheme with one eye on ensuring road users can feel the benefits as early as possible – this is why we have opened sections of the scheme incrementally to traffic.

"I look forward to seeing the full programme of works completed very soon, and am sure people across the region will welcome the newest addition to Scotland's major road network."
