Construction work has started on a hydro project in the Scottish Highlands.
The 1MW Allt Gharagain hydro project by Green Highland Renewables will be located to the west of Achnasheen in Wester Ross and is the fourth project in the immediate area to be developed by the company.
Morgan Sindall has been appointed to the £3.5m scheme and will be responsible for building the high-head, run-of-river project, which will be grid connected in December 2014.
The development has been made possible due to a joint venture between Green Highland Renewables and Albion Ventures, one of the largest venture capital trust managers in the UK.
Welcoming the start of work on site, Ian Cartwright, Managing Director at Green Highland Renewables, said: "It is good to get this project off the ground. We secured planning consent in 2011 and it has been a long wait for our grid connection date to come around."
